Emergency Services PDF Print E-mail

The Emergency Services component is the Operations side to the Civil Air Patrol. After paroling the coastline for German U-boats during WWII, the USAF reassigned CAP to preform 90% of all inland Search and Rescue under the direction of the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center (AFRCC).  CAP works thousands of missions a year with an average of 80 lives saved, but this is just the tip of the iceberg.  Disaster Relief, Reconnaissance, Transportation, and Communications are only a few other types of missions CAP preforms. Claiming the largest fleet of single-engine piston aircraft in the world, an extensive communications network, and over 56 thousand trained volunteers, it is obvious why the Civil Air Patrol is called upon to fly surveillance support for the NASA rocket and Shuttle launches as well as to preform other missions for the government and non-profit government supporting agencies like the American Red Cross.
