Consisting of over 36,000 people, Senior Members make up over 50% of the Civil Air Patrol membership core, and as members of the Civil Air Patrol they have the duty to serve their community, state, and nation as a volunteer assisting the Civil Air Patrol in one or more of its congressionally chartered missions or programs: The Cadet Programs, Aerospace Education, and Emergency Services. When a member joins they first accomplish Level 1 training which encompasses: CAP Introductions, Cadet Protection Policy Training, and OPSEC. Once they have accomplished these three Level 1 criteria the next step is for the member to learn about the three missions stated previously and decide where they feel they can best serve their local unit.
