The SC Wing's 2009 Compliance Inspection (CI) Report is in. You'll find a copy of the full report on the Paperless Wing Document Library under Inspector General. The purpose of the CI is to identify good works and to identify areas of needed improvement. Let's celebrate and applaud the good works identified in the report, especially the Aerospace Education, Finance, and Air Operations teams, each of which achieved the highest honor, "Highly Successful". The wing as a whole received a "Successful' grade. We impressed the CI Team with many of our accomplishments. Col Joe Vazquez, after seeing the report, said, "I'm proud of the showing of the South Carolina Wing and of Wing Commander Col Emerson Smith. The SC Wing is only the second in the nation, after Arizona Wing, to successfully complete this 4-year cycle of Compliance Inspections. South Carolina is a pace setter for others in the Middle East Region and the nation to follow." The ultimate purpose of the CI is to identify those areas in which we can improve. Areas of needed improvement include: reporting of trend data in our flying program, all squadrons submitting CAPF 53s, appointing Test Control Officers in all squadrons, completing required courses for Public Affairs Officers, all squadrons submitting S-3 equipment inventories, correct tire pressures in vans and aircraft, submitting a paper CAPF 73 for each van each month, having a CAPF 175 on file for each van, demonstrating leadership in the wing by having wing, group and squadron commanders assure that reports are filed by all squadrons in a timely manner, having a Safety Down Day in October, having safety officers in each squadron complete the on-line Basic Safety Course, documentation to support completion of subordinate unit inspections (SUIs), and having squadrons reply to all SUI findings. This represents 13 areas of needed improvement in 2009. In our last CI, in 2005, we had 55 areas of needed improvement. We have made significant progress in the past 4 years thanks to the diligence and enthusiasm and leadership of our members. The wing will respond to each finding in a timely manner. This will make this wing stronger and more responsive to the needs of cadets, seniors, and our customers. SC Wing Commander Emerson Smith said, "From the Squadron Commanders, to the Group Commanders, to the Wing Staff Directors, to the Command Staff, and to the Wing Commander -- where the buck stops and the ultimate responsibility lies in the SC Wing -- we must continue to do - and excell in doing - the basic tasks that we are asked to do by the USAF and by our National Commander. We do this not only to satisfy some regulation, but also to assure that we have demonstrated leadership that will make the SC Wing a safe and productive place to work, enabling us to serve the people of South Carolina and America." Thanks to the CI team for helping us identify areas of improvment and to all the members of the wing who worked many hours to have a successful CI. |
