Charleston Cadet Earns Triple Nominations, Appointment to Naval Academy

At just 18 years old, Cadet Chief Master Sgt. Matilynn Vermette is already flying high — both literally and figuratively. The Civil Air Patrol cadet from Coastal Charleston Composite Squadron, South Carolina has earned an appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy, joining the elite ranks of future Navy and Marine Corps officers after securing nominations from all three of her Congressional representatives.

Civil Air Patrol Honors Apollo 16 Astronaut with Squadron Renaming

In a ceremony on May 24 at 10 a.m. Civil Air Patrol’s Anderson Composite Squadron was formally rededicated as the Charles Duke Jr. Composite Squadron, paying tribute to the extraordinary life and legacy of Brig. Gen. Charles Moss Duke Jr., a retired United States Air Force officer, Apollo 16 astronaut, test pilot, and American hero.
