Civil Air Patrol Cadet Honored at South Carolina STEM Signing Day
SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Civil Air Patrol Cadet 1st Lt. Bethany Moore of the Spartanburg Composite Squadron was among 75 high school seniors recognized at the 9th Annual South Carolina STEM Signing Day, held April 23 at the University of South Carolina Alumni Center in Columbus.
The event, modeled after athletic signing days, celebrates students who have committed to pursuing degrees in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics. This year's ceremony featured acknowledgments from South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster and members of the state legislature.Honorees were also recognized at the Statehouse for their academic achievements and future contributions to the state's STEM-driven economy.
Moore, a recent graduate of Spartanburg High School, has demonstrated exceptional leadership within Civil Air Patrol. She advanced to the rank of cadet first lieutenant, commanded her squadron’s region-qualifying cadet competition team, and participated in aerospace education and flight training programs. She plans to continue her academic journey at the University of Louisville, pursuing a STEM-related degree.
The event was hosted by Boeing in partnership with BMW Manufacturing Co., Michelin North America, Nucor Corporation, SC Future Makers and the South Carolina Manufacturers Alliance. Since its inception in 2017, STEM Signing Day has expanded to 14 states and honored over 2,000 students nationwide, with more than 700 participants from South Carolina.
In a new initiative this year, SC Future Makers awarded $12,000 in scholarships to five students participating in STEM Signing Day, aiming to further support their STEM education based on academic achievement and demonstrated interest in STEM fields.
Moore's recognition underscores the impact of CAP’s cadet program and the support of the Spartanburg community in fostering future leaders in STEM.
