South Carolina Civil Air Patrol Squadrons Support Community Through Service at Beaufort Oyster Roast

April 6, 2026

PORT ROYAL, S.C. —  As thousands gathered under the live oaks for one of the Lowcountry’s most anticipated annual traditions, a group of volunteers worked quietly behind the scenes to keep the event running smoothly and the park pristine.

Members of the Civil Air Patrol’s ACE Basin Composite Squadron, based in Cottageville, and Beaufort Senior Squadron supported the Beaufort Oyster Roast at Live Oaks Park from March 6–8 — not for recognition, but for service.

Throughout the weekend, cadets and adult volunteers cleared tables, hauled away oyster shells, and managed trash across the busy waterfront park. As the crowds came and went, the team remained focused on a simple mission: leave the space better than they found it.

That commitment has built a strong partnership with event organizers over time.

“We are in full swing gearing up for our upcoming Oyster Roast and are hoping your outstanding group will again be a part of our event,” said Jason Dangerfield, secretary of Beaufort Charities.

The Beaufort Oyster Roast is more than a social gathering. Hosted by Beaufort Charities, the event raises funds that support local nonprofits throughout the community. By helping keep the event clean and running efficiently, the squadron plays a direct role in ensuring those funds continue to make an impact.

For cadets, the experience offers more than volunteer hours. It provides an opportunity to demonstrate leadership, teamwork, and a commitment to service in a real-world setting.

Event organizers say the squadron’s professionalism and reliability have made them a valued part of the event year after year.

“Your group’s efforts were top notch again this year. Thanks again for your support. I am looking forward to learning more about CAP,” Dangerfield said.

That impact extends beyond the event itself. Through their work in the community, Civil Air Patrol members are helping build connections and inspire others to get involved.

As the last tables were cleared and the final shells hauled away, the result was more than a clean park. It was a visible reminder of what service looks like — steady, selfless, and quietly powerful.
