Beyond Drill: Cadets Develop Skills to Lead

Ever wondered what goes on at encampment beyond PT, games, and drill? Cadets spend the week immersed in a variety of lessons focused on character development, leadership, aerospace, and team building.

In addition to these core subjects, cadets spend significant time in the classroom—roughly an hour and a half per class—diving into each topic. They also create and teach their own “pocket classes,” offering unique lessons based on their interests and experiences.

These educational opportunities build a foundation for future growth within the cadet program. With each class, cadets develop skills that help them become stronger leaders—both at encampment and back at their home squadrons.

Some cadets arrive as followers and leave with a deeper understanding of leadership, confidence in their drill abilities, and knowledge they can pass on. These lessons ripple outward, helping future cadets grow through peer-to-peer mentorship.

Question of the Day: What’s one thing you learned during a class at encampment?

  1. “Chip the week little by little.” – Staff Sgt. James Shull

  2. “Try your best, knowing it will never be perfect.” – Master Sgt. Nolan Zoltanzki

  3. “Discipline is key.” – Staff Sgt. Spencer Crothers
