Director of Aerospace Education, South Carolina Wing

 

The Director of Aerospace Education is the Commander’s main point of contact and primary resource for accomplishing the AE mission. The DAE works closely with assistants to promote AE in squadrons and communities. The DAE interacts and coordinates with other AEOs at organizational levels above and below, ensuring the AE mission is accomplished.

   

The DAE will promote the objectives and purposes of CAP by encouraging the achievement of established goals and programs by all units and by setting new goals and programs within the Wing in support of the Corporation’s objectives. 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Helps recruit flight, squadron, and group AEOs
  • Plan wing-wide field trip opportunities
  • Trains and assists squadron and group AEOs
  • Recommends to SCWG Commander internal and external AE staff for SCWG appointments
  • Works toward the next higher rating level in the AE SpecialtyTrack
  • Presents AE updates at staff meetings
  • Works with wing public affairs officer to promote aerospace education
  • Communicates with and visits subordinate units for evaluation and assistance
  • Maintains a current AEO roster
  • Ensures applications made for AE grants
  • Conducts AE programs within the Wing and at the Wing Conference
  • Assists cadet competition teams with the AE portion of the Wing Cadet Competition
  • Develops, facilitates, and supports AE’s outreach programs
  • Creates an AE page on the SCWG website
  • Reports to the DCS/AE periodically on Wing aerospace activities 
  • Serves as point of contact for the Teacher Orientation Program (TOP)Flights
  • Ensures nominations are prepared and submitted for CAP’s AE awards program
  • Submits annual AE budget to Wing Finance Officer for Commander approval
  • Reports to the Wing Commander periodically on the progress of Wing AE Plan of Action
  • Completes final online AE Plan of Action and ensures the Wing Commander approves
  • Provides end-of-year AE Activity Report to the Wing Commander
  • Works with units to visit classrooms of public, private, or homeschool and promote CAP AE

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Required Qualifications:

  • Must have completed or be working on Level 3 of the CAP Education & Training Program
  • Willingness to work in a deadline-focused environment
  • Self-starter comfortable working with senior officers and new members
  • Continuing currency in the latest aerospace ideas and trends
  • Comfortable with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. 
  • Responsive to emails, messages, and comments • Achieved the Yeager Award

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Completion of Level 4 of the CAP Education & Training Program
  • A senior/master rating in at least one of the following specialties

        Aerospace Education or Cadet Programs

  • A former squadron or group AEO

 

Assignment Requirements:

  • Will be assigned as Director of Aerospace Education
  • Attend all quarterly command council meetings and monthly staff calls.
  • Reports to South Carolina Wing Chief of Staff: Lt Col Nicol Shaffner

 

SELECTION AND APPLICATION PROCESS:

  • Selection made by the Chief of Staff and Wing Commander based on a review and interview of the most qualified applicants  Due Date: Nov 15, 2022, or until filled.
